Month 3: Overview

A little late, but here is the 3rd month overview of our hike. Here are the facts from May 15th to June 15th.

Total miles: 492.8

Average mileage per day: 15.9 (14.2 for entire trip)

Percent of trail completed: 60.5%

Number of zero days: 5 (3 in Annandale, Blackrock Hut, and Duncannon)

Best HIking Day: Day 81 (Halfway point of AT, half gallon challenge, a respite from the heat)

Easiest Hiking Day: Day 77 (very flat, new states, Harpers Ferry, ATC headquarters)

Most Difficult Hiking Day: Day 76 (HOT, the roller coaster, long day)

Worst Hiking Day: Day 89 (feet hurt, horrible blisters, and so many rocks!)

Best Trail Town: Waynesboro, VA

Favorite Mountain: Three Ridges

Favorite Camping Spot: Falls Creek Campsite

Favorite Shelter: Quarry Gap Shelter

Favorite State: Virginia

Favorite Trail Location Names: Metallica Spring and Bake Oven Knob

Wildlife: bears, black snakes, garter snakes, rattlesnake, raccoon, ticks, rabbits, newts, deer, vultures, frogs, turtles, birds, salamanders, cicadas, squirrels, chipmunks, fish
